IT’S TIME TO SEE WHO THE CHAMPION IS

IT’S TIME TO SEE WHO THE CHAMPION IS

Harlem Queen, fresh off a second placing in the Group 1 Flight Stakes (1600m) behind Lady Shenandoah on October 5 will again take on the top echelon of three-year-olds when she runs in the Group 1 Spring Champion Stakes (2000m) on October 26.

Harlem Queen performed admirably in her first shot in Group 1 company, with all indications the 2000m will suit her perfectly. “There were options in Melbourne like the Ethereal Stakes, but at this stage we will keep her in Sydney” said Nathan. “She will only carry 54.5kg in the Spring Champion, and the way she ran through the line in the Flight the 2000m will not be an issue. She has done well since the Flight and I see no reason to tip her out” he continued.

The daughter of Brutal x Harlem River has now amassed $215,350 in five career starts, with the promise of much more to come.

                                           DEPRIVATION EARNS WELL DESERVED FRESHEN-UP

Six-year-old gelding Deprivation has been given a well-earned freshen-up after his close-up third on the Kensington track on October 9. The son of No Nay Never was transferred to Nathan from Mick Price & Michael Kent (Jnr) prior to this preparation, and the change in scenery has done him the world of good. In four starts for the Doyle team, Deprivation has secured two wins, one second and one third – earning connections $65,250 along the way. His two victories were at Newcastle on August 24 and Canterbury on September 18. These wins were split by a narrow (0.14L) defeat by subsequent Saturday winner Sir Artie at Warwick Farm on September 4.

“Deprivation has gone for a freshen-up. He has done a super job for the stable since arriving from Melbourne and will have a brief let-up. He races on speed and makes his own luck, but not only that he enjoys a fight as evidenced by his slender beaten margins” Nathan said.

                                               NOTHING HIDDEN ABOUT MOTIVE’S DEBUT

Hidden Motive was the first of this season’s two-year-olds to hit the racetrack for the Doyle team, and he performed creditably in finishing fourth in the Group 3 Breeders Plate (1000m). Ridden by Dylan Gibbons, the Capitalist x Secret Agenda colt was the victim of early interference before regaining his momentum to settle midfield. Briefly held up in the straight, Hidden Motive did a fantastic job to finish on the heels of the placegetters – ultimately beaten 1 ¾ lengths. Hidden Motive has now gone for a deserved break, with a lot to look forward to when he returns.

STRIKE RATE IN THE TOP ECHELON

Nathan and the team at Doyle Racing have continued their bright start to the 2024-25 racing season, with their strike rate in the top echelon of trainers. From sixty-six runners this season, the stable has saddled 12 winners (18.18%), with a further 20 placings (48.48%). “We aim to find the right races for the horses so as we can reward our loyal owners. We appreciate the costs involved in racing a horse, so it is our job to give them the best chance of success” commented Nathan.

                                                   TEAM OF TRIALLERS PROMISE PLENTY

Muswellbrook Race Club hosted a massive set of trials on Wednesday October 9, and with no trials in the Provincial area Nathan transported four horses up the New England Highway. Wooloowin headed the team, and at her second trial this time in coasted to a Head victory. Ridden by Mitchell Bell the daughter of Capitalist x Brook Road settled worse than midfield before unleashing a sizzling turn of foot to round up her opposition. The veteran of only three starts, Wooloowin will head to the races soon.

“It is great to see her return in the fashion she has after such a long layoff” Nathan said. “We also have her half-sister (by North Pacific) in the stable, and there are still shares available in her. We will have a look around for a suitable race for Wooloowin to resume in, but a midweek city race may be a nice starting point”.

Private Harry was another to be victorious in his trial, winning heat eight by a narrow margin. Ash Morgan piloted the son of Harry Angel x Happy Pilgrim and he was impressive in his first trial this time in. Aroha Stone (3rd) and Irish Bliss (6th) also had solid outings in their respective heats.

                                                                    ONE TO FOLLOW

Aroha Stone – Ready to resume off the back of two trials, Aroha Stone has impressed in both trials without being knocked around. The daughter of El Roca x Luminescent debuted in the Listed Woodlands Classic at Scone during the May Carnival. Given a nice break immediately after, Aroha Stone has returned in great fashion and appears sure to have a fruitful campaign.
