Newcastle trainer Nathan Doyle is back in Midway racing and has genuine chances at both Wyong and Rosehill, led by unbeaten filly Cool Waters.

The Nathan Doyle stable makes a welcome return to Midway racing and are looking to snare a couple of winners across two tracks.

Eligibility is based on a trainer’s overall results under the Midway points scale for the applicable previous season and Doyle was ineligible last season after accruing too many points in 2024/25.

Promising filly Cool Waters resumes from a spell and will be looking to maintain her perfect record in the Drew Chivas Memorial Midway Handicap (1000m) at Wyong.

The daughter of Headwater debuted with a smart win from Send A Telegram at Coffs Harbour and followed up with a gutsy win over Edge Of Midnight at Scone last September.

She showed she was on track for her return with an all-the-way win in her Beaumont trial by nearly two lengths from Honey Perfume on June 3.

“She was excellent in her trial and I was just looking through the form and the horse that ran second behind her come out and won at Newcastle first-up,” said David Dyson, racing manager for Nathan Doyle.

“She’s a very progressive filly. She’s had two goes in the country and has certainly earned a crack at provincial grade.

“We will just have to decide if she goes around this weekend. She’s only a small filly and we were looking to claim but Shannon was booked for Damien Lane’s horse before we became re-eligible for Midways.

“Hopefully if we can find a suitable apprentice as it would be very beneficial to the filly’s chances.”

Doyle also has two two-year-olds taking on older horses in the Provincial Maiden Plate (1200m) after Count Du Money was scratched.

Ateba and Feuron have been good in their respective barrier trials with each winning a heat on the Beaumont on June 3.

Brutal’s son Ateba then finished second to Honour Award in his Wyong heat on June 17 while Feuron was runner-up to No Limits in his trial that same day.

Ateba tracked wide at his latest trial and was very strong through the line,” Dyson said.

“He couldn’t do any more than what he’s been doing in his trials. He’s been very good and he’s a pretty mature horse.”

Feuron, a son of Hellbent, was beaten 5 ½ lengths by No Limit in that trial but wasn’t knocked about by Shannen Llewellyn.

“The winner went like a bomb,” Dyson said.

“They went really quick in that trial and it probably got him a little bit out of his comfort zone.

“It was the quickest two-year-old trial and it was comparable with the open-class horses.

“He was pretty good in his first trial at Newcastle.”

Doyle also has a strong hand to play at Rosehill with The Extreme Cat and Myriad in the Midway Handicap (1200m).

“It’s great we get to place these horses in these races again,” he said.

“Coming back to Midways brings The Extreme Cat back to his right grade.

“Myriad’s an improving type of horse. He hasn’t surprised the stable but he’s gone to another level this time in.

He also has Formal in Benchmark 78 Handicap (1100m) and Midnight Opal in the Benchmark 88 Handicap (1200m).

Formal is racing well with a third and two fourth placings from his three runs this campaign under big weights and will appreciate dropping down to 53.5kg according to Dyson.

“The claim for Braith Nock is vital,” he said.

“He gets in with no weight on his back because he’s not a big horse.

“He’ll roll forward, put himself in the picture and he’ll try his guts out.”
